Godown Back on Top at New Egypt New Egypt, NJ (Jul. 20, 2013) – Ryan Godown of Ringoes, NJ was back on top Saturday night as he picked up the victory in the 30 lap 358 Modified event at New Egypt Speedway. Godown charged to the front in the first 10 laps of the event following last weeks winner Billy Pauch thru the field, then drove by Pauch on the outside on a restart and went on to record his fifth win of the season. Brad Freeman led the early going as Pauch and Godown raced forward dicing it out thru traffic. Willie Osmun led for a brief time, however something broke on his Norcia #81 sending him pit side. Pauch won the race to the front, and got the lead using the outside lane on a restart. Once he got the lead the yellow flag appeared again, and Pauch being the leader had lane choice and chose the inside lane. This gave runnerup Godown the outside which he took full advantage of driving around Pauch on the cushion for a lead he would never relinquish. Pauch not only stayed within five car lengths of Godown, as the hit lapped traffic he closed back in on him over the final 5 laps, but couldn’t find a way by and had to settle for second on this night. Third place went to Jimmy Blewett who drove all the way up from his last row starting spot. David Van Horn continued his hot hand with another top five run in fourth, while Tad Cox rounded out the top five. In the FASTRAK Crate Sportsman 20 lapper, Steve Hicks was the victor one week after his near win. Last time The Crates raced, Hicks was in front by over a straightaway when he got caught up in a tangle with 4 lapped cars ending his bid. This time, he wasted no time, racing from 10th to first during the first lap and going on to dominate the event picking up the second win of his career. Point leader and defending champ Eric Palmer settled for second followed by Kyle Bostick, Mike Carman and Chuck Steuer. DJ Macri won his first ever feature in the 12 lap Fastrak Late Model main event. Sean Frey was second and Skip Syester came home third. The final event of the evening was the Hilborn/TSRS 305 Sprint Car 20 lap Feature, however rains came just as it began, forcing the postponement of the event. This feature will be run as an extra event make-up the next time the 305’s are in town. Next Saturday July 27, AC Delco presents Powder Puff night as the Ladies will take to the speedway following the nights racing card. The 358 Modifieds will headline the program which will also feature Sportsman and Street Stocks. The Sportsman will also compete in their own version of the fan favorite Match Races. Racing gets underway at 6pm, with the gates opening at 4pm.
