Gods Unruly Friends! At the Theater for the New City! God’s Unruly Friends offers performances of music improvised from concepts and templates that blend elements from not only musical genres, but translates non musical concepts into musical ideas. The group’s next concert is scheduled for Monday, March 9th 7pm at the Theater for the New City (155 1st avenue, NYC theaterforthenewcity.net). The performance will be held in the venue’s Cino Theater. The group’s live performance will be enhanced by theatrical elements such as dance, projected animation, and set design. GUF picks up where Dawoud’s previous ensemble Renegade Sufi left off. The element of theatrics is a part of GUF, and uses improvised processes. No two GUF concerts are exactly alike; and while a lot can (and does) happen on stage, even more is happening in the audience’s psyche. We are exploring the outer and inner realms with music! There are no limits here: this is World Music from Another World!
