Godzilla was so hollywood cliche when it came to the military aspect. First of all, the only reason Marines never showed up is because they were too busy getting drunk on base in Hawaii and in California.(spoiler alert) Also, -Their PEQ-2s are highly outdated, seeing as we use the PEQ-16 now and the 2s were used mostly in early Iraq(... in 2003...) - PEQ white lens flood lights dont last that long if theyre left on, like everyone kept doing in the movie. Trust me, if you left that thing on youd need to change the batteries every 30 minutes - Leaving your PEQ white lens flood light on is just asking to get shwacked. I dont know why you need to use it in the first place when theres buildings burning on your left and right, easily illuminating the street youre walking on. But you just sacrificed the concealment that the darkness gave you because you needed to see. - Using the flood light for illumination is a bad idea to begin with. Its better to save the battery so you can shoot at night without having to use an optic. The flood light is better to blind and disorient an enemy upon making entry to a room, not for trying to see the street thats already illuminated with fire. - Aaron Taylor-Johnsons character magically had his cammies and issued flak with all the personal customization (patches, mag pouch placement, camelbak, etc.) randomly without going home - He wouldve been busted down for taking issued gear on leave - he wouldve been busted down for being UA - Where was he keeping his rifle during that halo jump? He pulled it out of nowhere, Call of Duty style. - He survived an easily 100 foot fall into water. If he survived the fall itself, he wouldve had numerous broken bones and wouldve drowned because he couldnt swim - he survived a gas explosion while being less than 1 foot from it and wouldve instantly died in the explosion - those soldiers on the bridge were ready to shoot those AT-4s with countless friendlies and civilians easily in the back blast. - The Marine Corps was actually offered to be the main military force in the film but turned it down, which is why Marines never showed up. When theres a Marine Corps Base on the other side of Oahu (opposite to Honolulu), Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms in Southern California, all of which are bases that are home to Infantry battlions. - Aaron Taylor-Johnsons character wouldve been punished for desertion, stealing issued gear, and probably wouldve gone straight to the brig as soon as everything cleared up. No one cares if you disarm a nuclear bomb and save over 220 million people, youre going to get punished like everyone else. That Medal of Honor you should be getting? Too bad, youre going to the brig, son. Oh, and you owe hundreds of thousands of dollars for missing/damaged gear and the rifle you got from the Army and carelessly lost.
