God’s “Cause” is the Cross I recently saw a one line - TopicsExpress

God’s “Cause” is the Cross I recently saw a one line statement that I thought was excellent. It said, “Don’t replace the Cross with a cause.” While I can’t take credit for the statement, I thought to expound upon it. The Church of today seems to have developed a focus on a variety of “causes.” Church members are told that they need to feed the hungry, support the poor, do good deeds for their neighbors, or a dozen other legitimate social kindnesses. While all these “causes” are good, we must ask ourselves whether or not we are focusing upon God’s cause or man’s. Man’s premiere need is that of salvation and sanctification. The sinner and saint alike need a Saviour on a daily basis. Without faith in the Saviour the sinner can’t be saved. Without faith in the work of the Saviour the Saint can’t be sanctified. To make both these a reality, the “Preaching of the Cross (1 Cor. 1:18)” must occur in front of all other causes. In order to accomplish the salvation of the soul and the growth of the saint, God sent His Son to a Cross. He didn’t send medical help, financial help, or physical help. He sent a Saviour to die for our victory over sin. Then He plainly instructed the Church to embrace “His cause” and perform one major function; “Go into all the World and Preach the gospel to every creature.” If that is not what our primary purpose and function revolves around as a Ministry or a Church then we have substituted our cause(s) for God’s. God’s cause will always and forever be the Cross of Jesus Christ! Loren Larson 4/10/13
