God’s Word is the joy stimulant. When Christians rejoice they know why. The Holy Spirit does not inject a happiness-drug into us, but leads us into the truth which sets our hearts ablaze. Some 200 times Scripture bids us to ‘rejoice’. Paul told the Philippians “Rejoice always!” but he pointed out good reasons why. The Lord is the greatest cause of joy, the origin and fountain of all pleasure, love, and happiness. Without God days fall from wall calendars as unimportant as dead leaves from a tree, but each page leaf could be filled with accounts of the Lord’s attention to us.
