God’s Word softens the heart and convicts the conscience, or it sears the conscience and hardens the heart. Either way the Word of God yields its perfect outcome; an outcome known from the foundation of the world. As ministers and counselors we do not control the outcome nor can we supplant God’s intent. Rather we sow the seed of truth and God determines the size of the crop. Jesus said: The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows--how, he himself does not know. The soil produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head.
