God’s ways are distinctively and consistently different from ours. God did not rescue Daniel out of the lion’s den as we would have. He didn’t turn off the fiery furnace into which Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were cast, as we would. He didn’t kill Pharaoh and save the Israelites from the Red Sea; instead He worked His wondrous purposes in the lion’s den, in the furnace, and in the Red Sea. Lion’s teeth, fire, and water are no big deal to the God who created them. Death, at the presence of the Light of the world, is but a shadow that quickly dissipates like a frightened and sickly child.
