Following the spate of arson and violence on Thursday along Nagaland-Assam border areas under Golaghat and Wokha district, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his Nagaland counterpart, T.R. Zeliang are scheduled to meet in Guwahati on August 21 to discuss the situation arising at the disturbed area between the two states. At a press meet here, chief minister Gogol said that the role of NSCN group was under scanner for involvement in the incidents in the border area. Gogoi said the involvement of the outfit has only complicated the situation and that his government has already sent its report to the union home ministry which pointed fingers at the Naga outfit responsible for fomenting trouble in the border during the past couple of years. Gogoi also blamed the neutral central force (CRPF) deployed along the Assam-Nagaland border for the escalating tension. Gogoi said that these central forces have been failing to ensure peace in the violence-hit areas. “That’s why, the violence took place and people died,” Gogoi said. He said that he would write to Centre with a complaint on the alleged inaction by a CRPF Commandant, who was reportedly a Zeme Naga. Meanwhile in his Independence Day speech Friday, Gogoi expressed his government’s deep concern on the occurrences of violence on Assam-Nagaland border and killing of innocent people by miscreants.
