Going Deeper in God This first of the year sermon series at Warwick Church I have entitled Going Deeper in God. The text is from Ezekiel chapter 47. There we read a man with a measuring tape in his hand and measures off 1,000 cubits while encouraging the prophet Ezekiel to come into the water, and as the prophet responds the depth was to the ankles, he measures another 1,000 cubits and the waters are to the knees, he measures again and now the waters are to the loins and finally another 1,000 and the waters were over his head, waters to swim in, water no one could possibly walk through. The agent in this passage reminds me of the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, who is always challenging us to the deeper truths of God. There a few things we can glean, the first is that though the invitation is available it must be received and also that our level of hunger for more of God determines how deep we go, as Matthew 6 reads ask, seek, knock for then we shall receive, find and open doors of revelation are discovered. With that said, there are also two perspectives I notice in our spiritual journey, one is those encounters we have in God where he has set up the appointment and his purposes for his great work in our lives, these usually come as interruptions to the normal routines we are in and we refer to these times as revival. These are less frequent in comparison to those moments where I make disciplined choices to hear his voice, it involves positioning ourselves, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) NIV So there are those in Gods camp who say we are waiting on a move of God and possibly Gods perspective is I am waiting on you to position yourself in order for you to receive what I want to bring and do in your life. In my own life I have found in comparison most of my encounters were experienced because I responded to what God was speaking, simply because I was in a listening mode. I am not opposing the divine experiences God gives, but I am encouraging for the body of Christ to listen intently because God is speaking and then maybe our experiences in God are not sporadic but consistent. So its not you setting up the encounter but you responding to the revelation and the blessing that is there for us as we position ourselves to go deeper but also ready for the great move that is coming.
