Going Nowhere Fast....that is with my running. Today worked up to - TopicsExpress

Going Nowhere Fast....that is with my running. Today worked up to 4-mile continuous run...opting for treadmill since it was light rain and cold outside. No big expectations and knew to start slow and keep it slow all the way...just a gradual progression up to max of 6.5-6.6 mph last mile...with a little push of 6.7-6.8 last 0.2-miles. I am glad I didnt try to push into my usual marathon pace range cause I was feeling the issues in that R-Groin and the L-glute/hamstring right from the start. Just had to work it slowly and focus on gait and form and look for nuances that alleviated the issue. None of this pain is anything severe...just nagging neural throbs and stabs that you feel that curtail the leg muscles to turn-over faster and/or power-off on toe-off. Though I may be concerned that I am up against the wall to do training and build adequate conditioning to run a marathon in Boston in April 2014...right now...simply just trying to build some regular base of modest mid-week runs that burns calories and keeps my weight stable at where I like to be in past for running marathons. In my peak days posting those fastest times in Boston...my normal hydrated weight about 150-lb. I could drop to 143-145 post long distance runs or the marathon itself...but being around that 150 weight was where I found optimal performance. For this past Chicago I was floating a little heavier in the 152-153 range...but still feeling pretty light. In this lay-off from running post Chicago Marathon...then Frank Lloyd Wright 10k...I peaked at 159.8 5-days ago! A little panic...but just kept patient and focused on cutting back caloric intake and not binging on high-caloric eats when out there with friends and such. And past 2-days back to that 154-lb hydrated weight. Given the injury/issues just try to focus on duration and burning some calories...and that is what today was....152.8 post run...so if I stick with healthy salad for dinner tonight....should be somewhere in the 153 range Friday. Weight makes a difference when it comes to running your fastest so I need to get back to that prime zone weight...but there are other elements that dictate just how fast you can run. I am working on it...dont ever care if I can hit that 6:48 pace in the 5k...just want to be able to run that marathon distance to BQT standards. And I turn 60 early December....so that means need to run the 3:55 marathon. I was only 6-min behind that at this past Chicago contending with a blistered L-toe, hammered middle R-toe...and even worse...that R-groin. Since I didnt have to make that time cause I already was in Boston with last years 3:33-ish...made no sense to kill myself for the time and just finish it and live to race another marathon another day. And that I will try to do...until the day comes I have to crawl prostrate on the ground to get to the finish line...then maybe...have to give it up. But riding a bike...doesnt evoke the issue I contend with...so maybe I become a full-fledged biker? Thanks for listening to me work through this. Those that know me...will not count me out until the fat lady sings! Where did that saying come from? LOL!
