Going back to my child hood in Vaughn I could still remember it like if it was tomorrow in the mid 60s ... I lived with grandma and most of the time my grandfather would work on the ranches close to Vaughn I would stay with my grandma ,,, the lamps we had as it was flicking the oil lamps , food was all made fresh and all done at home .. Wooden stove crackling as the wood was burning ... On the cold nite our blankets were wool and hand made ... There was a bump that we would go and fill out side ... Home made pinto beans cookin on the wood stove and those homemade potatoes and home made tortallias every day they would make a pile and so good ... Fresh green chili from our garden and roasting on the wood stove ... Chop fresh garlic and drag roasted green chili on a home tortilla I could taste it now so good .. Washing clothes in the old fashion washers and going out side to hang them on the line with clothes pins ... Both front and back doors open and our windows too during the summer ... Making lava soap , washing the wool of the sheeps to make blankets our pillow cases came from the huge flour bags that had flour once they finshed the flour we would wash and print something pretty on them and starch them and iron them ... How fresh the clothes smelled and the sheets to our beds were so crispy and fresh ,,,, some times the pinto beans were put in a middle size can ( where the lard came from ) and they would put the lid on it and there they dug a hole and put wood in and once it was burning just the wood they would put the can with the pinto beans in ... Later during the day they would take them out and brought to our kitchen such flavor .... Every fruit tree and blue berrys we had was made to jam yum yum so good .. We had lambs and I would go with a Pepsi bottle filled with powered milk and a black nipple that would go around the top of the bottle ,,, chickens and roasters we had and a garden that I would go and get snaps peas so good , peaches , and plums , apples , and so many more ,,, they would hang carne Sica with the cheese clothe and make white cottage cheese hanging on a tree branch wrap in cottage cheese cloth . Sugar canes oh my I love them lol we would play out side mother may I , 123 red light , Cinderella dress in yellow , mother may I , hide n seek , jump rope , jacks , till we were called in to eat and did our chores and right back out side to play , some boys were jumping from the roof where our hay would be ... Hearing the train coming and would run till the last car and they would wave to us , getting soaked out side in the rain jumping and laying in our street so much fun climbing my tallest tree way to the top.. While my family was yelling out for me ... Curls with bobby pins and panty hose were uses on my hair to get those long curls memories wow !!! Best times ever ....
