Going down memory lane Hope everyone is having a fine August so far. I imagine what July heat didn’t do, August heat will make up for. I am going on a journey down memory lane. Sonya, my daughter, Neila, my wife who died suddenly several years ago, and I, enjoyed church at Magbee in Columbus, MS, across from Marvins. That’s where we met a lot of good people. We were invited to come to church by my cousin, Jimmy Cooper, and his lovely wife Wanda. That’s where we met Marcus Honnoll. He was a base singer for The Heartmen Quartet. At that time they had live music. Rodney Perrigin of McShan was manager. Marcus’s father started The Heartmen and Rodney was his assistant manager. Mr. Honnoll died at work, so Rodney kept the group going. My late wife Neila, our daughter Sonya and myself started going to their singings if they were close enough we could make it after church. Well, that went on every Saturday night and Sunday and after eight months of following them around, I was asked by Rodney to be Assistant Manager. I was thrilled to have become part of The Heartmen Quartet. Singers came and went, but Marcus and Chris Whitaker hung in there. Then Chris Cooper came and tried out for tenor with the group and Brian Brasher tried out for baritone. With these four singers, Rodney and myself, began a journey none of us will ever forget. I will have more on The Heartmen Quartet and our journeys next week, as we get ready to travel in Rodney’s van, it is packed full. So until next week, God Bless.
