Going to a minor league baseball game in the heart of working - TopicsExpress

Going to a minor league baseball game in the heart of working class immigrant Brooklyn with 800 students and family members from a great public school, I looked around and realized something-- you will NEVER drive public education out of Brooklyn. The roots are too strong, the people too proud, and the teachers too powerfully connected to the communities they teach in. Yes, there are places where private schools have an important role to play and where charter schools have gotten a strong foothold, but in huge stretches of Brooklyn, public education is alive, well and strong enough to survive for a very long time.
