Going to try my hand at something ive had for many years but never attempted to make it but now that my ex mother in law is no longer with us i am in a situation where we want these yummy pastries ... so here it goes , i will either succeed or flop Rice filled pastries: Filling: 1 qt of whole milk 1 cup reg rice , cooked 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup butter Crust: 3 cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup water Glaze: 1 1/2 cups water 3 tablespoons butter For the crust : Mix flour and shortening as for pie crust. Add about 1 cup cold water ; knead until dough in pliable. Chill overnight . For the filling : In a large saucepan add milk slowly to cooked rice and cook over low heat until it begins to thicken , about 1 hour. It will be slighly thin. Add salt and butter ; mix well . Stir and let cook until very thick. Roll out dough and cut into oblong shapes. Put a spoonful or two of rice mixture in the center , pinch the sides to form a shell. Bake at 400 for 45 mins. After baking , brush or dip the pastries in warm glaze . Serve warm
