Goin’ Home is a great tribute 2 CD set to Fats Domino to aid in the recovery from Katrina. Icons from the world of rock, blues, reggae, pop and country music have joined together to salute the genius of legendary piano man FATS DOMINO for this double CD set, Goin Home: A Tribute To Fats Domino, a benefit for the Tipitinas Foundation. This stellar tribute will help raise desperately needed funds specifically earmarked for instruments to be donated to New Orleans public school children as well as creating a community center in the still ravaged Lower 9th Ward. This 30-track compilation of original Domino recordings makes it easy to hear why only Elvis Presley sold more singles than the Fat Man in the 1950s. The only recycled tracks on Goin Home are Neil Youngs Walking to New Orleans, taken from an MTV Katrina relief broadcast, and John Lennox’s Ain’t it a Shame. The other 28 recordings are new, and must confront the inherent challenge facing all tribute albums: Good intentions aside, remakes often pale in comparison to the original songs. But a tribute just the same and well deserved.
