Golden Dragon for lunch at my aunts house. Had GD after many many months. Mixed feelings about the food we ate but the first thing to mention is the generous servings. The large order included two different chowmeins, fried rice, two different fish dishes (one in red curry and the other with garlic/chilies) crispy beef, beef with basil & chili, prawns with basil & chili, chicken with vegetables and one other prawn dish that I do not know since it never arrived before we finished lunch! Unfortunately they forgot one of the two prawn dishes and while GD immediately acknowledged the error when called about it, the food had not arrived by the time we finished our meal. Missing one item in a larger order happens with the best of places but I would suggest that GD management look into expediting the replacement delivery to avoid arrival after the rest of the food is finished. The fish with garlic/chili was the outright favourite for everyone and decimated pretty fast. Tasted really good and was prepared with a good balance of supporting ingredients. The chow mein, fried rice, chicken and fish in red sauce were fine too and enjoyed. Once again, it must be mentioned that the servings were generous and we easily over-ordered! The rest of the dishes were not at the level of these, whether in taste or the quantity of oil. The prawns and beef with chili & basil were average in taste but I suspect the dish lost something when we could not really use much of the limited sauce because there was too much oil. The crispy beef was my least favourite because it was simply too hard and well done which took away from the overall taste compounded by the oil. After reading many positive reviews on SWOT about GD, my impression is that maybe we had a mixed experience because we called them on a busy day if they are involved with the festival or just unusually busy on a weekend. I can see why people would speak well of them because they are surely able to deliver some good food and given the serving size, at a reasonable price. However, I would say that I would want to see much less oil and much more consistency in taste across the dishes that we get when we order from some of our favourite places. Maybe we will try GD again on a less busy day to see if there is a difference!
