Golden Globes Winking Guy Revealed as Andrew Ortenberg Posted on January 16th, 2015 at 12:17 pm If you watched the 72nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, there’s a good chance you caught a glimpse of the now Internet famous “Winking Guy.” As Katherine Heigl and David Duchovny announced the nominees for Best Actor in a TV Series Drama, the camera pans to Clive Owen, but all eyes were on the young man behind the actor who winked into the camera. So who is this mystery man with the “Golden” wink? People managed to track down the fellow and uncovered his identity as high school senior Andrew Ortenberg. The 17-year-old got a chance to attend the Globes after his stepmom decided not to go, so Andrew joined his father, whom he says goes to “these types of things” a lot. “I have never gone to one of these types of things before but my dad goes a lot but my stepmom didn’t want to go this year so I got to go,” Ortenberg tells the outlet during a Skype interview. “I knew I had to do something because I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” So how exactly did he manage to turn a subtle wink into an overnight Internet sensation? “I knew the whole night I was somehow going to try to get on TV and somehow my dad got us this really good table … we were actually right in the middle of everything so I knew I was going to get a chance. I noticed I was sitting right behind Clive Owen so I was waiting for the opportunity the whole night,” he said. And Andrew finally got his opportunity when “They shoved the camera right in front of Clive’s face,” he explains. “So I was only about three feet away from the camera–I turned my chair and positioned myself right behind the camera to be in the shot.” And that was the moment the Santa Monica high schooler thew up a peace sign and gave America the now famous wink. And it’s not every day your average teenager gets to attend such glamorous events as the Globes. So what was his best celeb sighting? Andrew says Matthew McConaughey. “I was expecting him to be taller. i had him in my mind as 6’3 but hes really like 5’10,” he reveals about the A-List actor.
