Goldman Sachs curbs workaholics by banning weekend work An article in Business Times reports that Wall Street bank Goldman Sachs has cracked down on staff working seven days a week, and banned them from the office for 36 hours every weekend. Goldman has sent a memo to its executives — who often work up to 100 hours a week — telling them they must not enter the office between 9pm on Friday and 9am on Sunday. However, “junior bankers are still expected to check their BlackBerries on a regular basis over the weekend”. But, according to the memo, “work should not shift from office to home”. The memo also “strongly” encourages staff to take three weeks’ holiday a year. The issue of excessive working hours and tough conditions in the city came to the fore in August by the death of an intern in London at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
