Golem is an over-used and often misappropriated term in fantasy & science fiction, generally as a synonym for an artificial person or automaton. In the Diaspora setting Im developing, in which colonists flee a dying world & arrive at a new one in great arks, much of the flavor and aesthetic is Semitic, but I didnt want to be lazy and just use golem for the artificial servants of the colonists. Instead Im considering abad or עָבַד which is servant in Hebrew, but Im also wondering if there is an analogue to artificial life (robots, automatons, etc) in pre-Islamic folklore that might also work.
