Gonna take a shower (even *I* think I stink) and then kick back - TopicsExpress

Gonna take a shower (even *I* think I stink) and then kick back for the big VT-UVA game (if somebody bothers to televise it). Before I get going, heres an update on the ol home place activities: Lisas movers showed up on time (as did she) and they loaded about a half a big truck full of stuff. Lisa was grabbing up a lot of stuff she rejected the first few times around; I think the spirit of ol Troy (our dad) had somehow gotten to her. (Glad wed already done numerous Thrift Shop and dump runs -- I think shed have gone crazy if wed still have had all that stuff sitting around.) Once again, Susan Trulove and her marvelous pick-up truck were on hand to help out; she and Kathy drove three loads of stuff WE wanted up to our house. They unloaded all three loads themselves; apparently my muscle wasnt needed. Bravo! Our buyer came around again and Lisa got to meet him and was as impressed with him as I was. We feel better about this. Before she left, Lisa made one more run-through, grabbing a few last-chance items. (Its up to me to clean it out as much as possible before closing.) We went from room to room as she said goodbye, and we didnt get emotional until we finished with the living room and started talking about all those lousy Christmas trees that our tightwad Dad brought home for all those years. Those trees might have been lousy but those few Christmases there, while Lisa was still a believer in Santa, were the times when the ol home place most felt like HOME to either one of us. On Christmas Eve, wed turn off all the house lights and sit in front of the lit-up tree, making sure Santa had his cookies or cake, and just basking in the glow of those old-time Christmas lights and the scads of silver tinsel that Mom insisted we hang one strand at a time (so that they looked real). Mom and Dad usually gave us a break from the drinking and fighting on Christmas Eve and would often even hold off until late evening on Christmas Day. So we knew we had a little respite there when we could actually have a real Christmas. We didnt need a big meal or a house full of relatives or any kind of seasonal pomp and circumstance. All we needed was each other and a little assist from Santa. Im not ashamed to admit that I shed a few tears today in remembrance of those long-gone days.
