Good Afternoon! Before we get too far ahead ourselves, this video IS NOT intended to show, prove, disprove, discredit, endorse or detract from PPV. I took this today while attending todays PPV Test session at UL in Northbrook, IL. What it does show is the effect of firing up a PPV before water is available or even being applied to the fire. What also is not known but will be part of the final report is how conditions on the 2nd floor changed prior to and after the PPV was started. The window to the 2nd floor was opened 7 minutes 30 seconds after the PPV fan was started while the PPV was started at the 8 minute mark. The test was done to simulate a fire in the 2 story rear great room of a modern style house and was meant to see the effects of PPV on such a structure. The idea several of us observing had was that the fire would race up the stairwell and through the open balcony on the 2nd floor and out the window and this test did not disappoint; it did as exactly as expected. What was cool to watch was that this was actually a 2 stage fire in that the first wave of fire was the gases from the 1st floor fire exiting and lighting off while the 2nd wave was the bedroom flashing over due to initial ignition from the offgassing fire. While not a surprise that this would happen, it was certainly cool and VERY educational to watch. All furnishings were modern and fuel load was moderate.
