The high will shift slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea ahead of a surface trough that is expected to enter southwest Queensland on Thursday, and shift eastwards contracting off the southern and central coasts late on Friday. A new high pressure system will move across the Great Australian Bight later in the week, extending a fresh and gusty southerly change over the interior of the state in the wake of the trough. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated to scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Fine and clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds about the tropics and central coast. Light winds elsewhere. Tuesday 29 July Isolated coastal showers north of Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool to cold morning through the southern and southeast inland with some early frosts. Daytime temperatures will remain generally above average away from the tropics. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds about the tropics and central coast. Light to moderate westerly winds in the southeast, fresh at times during the day. Light winds elsewhere. Fire Danger - Very high in the southeast. Wednesday 30 July The high will remain slow moving, maintaining a weak ridge along the north tropical coast. Much of the state will remain fine with only isolated showers expected about the east tropical coast. Early frosts will continue through the southern and southeastern inland, while daytime temperatures will remain above average away from the tropics. Thursday 31 July A surface trough should enter southwestern Queensland and shift east into the southern interior. No rainfall is expected with the passage of the trough due a dry airmass persisting. Daytime temperatures will warm further through western and southern districts in the northwesterly winds ahead of the trough, though early frosts will continue through the southern and southeast inland. An onshore wind flow should result in isolated shower activity about the east coast near and north of Yeppoon. Friday 1 August The trough should contract off the southern and central coast. Warm northwesterly winds ahead of the trough will tend cooler southwesterly in its wake. A new, strong high will then move east over the Great Australian Bight, extending a firm ridge through much of Queensland in the wake of the trough. Isolated showers are expected to continue over the east tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur elsewhere. ______________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Partly cloudy.
