Good Afternoon Gardeners, Making perfect compost via microbial-thermal decomposition is not hard to do; however, some compost is better than other compost. What I mean is that good compost has a balance between free carbon and nitrogen… it’s not deficient of one or the other. Just remember that you want 1 part nitrogen based material (green stuff) to 2 parts carbon based material (brown stuff) Ideally this should be intermixed as much as possible, and the entire contents should be moist. What has carbon: Sawdust, tree leaves, paper, wood bark, pine needles, straw, ashes, corn cobs. What has nitrogen: Grass, all kitchen and table scraps, flowers, all fruits and vegetables.
