Good Afternoon Steeler Nation, After watching the game yesterday, - TopicsExpress

Good Afternoon Steeler Nation, After watching the game yesterday, offensively for our First String, it was a stalemate and frankly did not look up to par due to limited snaps and the Second String Offense with Landry Jones at the helm were not able to do much more. Steelers second String Defense did however fared much better with its only touchdown later in the 3rd Qtr. I had an opportunity to watch Stephens-Howling run the ball, Ben with some slight action in the 1st Qtr., Woods with some nice receptions from Landry Jones (even though he threw too high based on first game jitters, he will get better), and Woods making good on his capability to be a Special Teams player. Last but not least, Curtis Brown with some great athletic catches to put the Steelers in great field position. It would seem like there are individual efforts that should be taken into serious consideration for the 53 Man Roster. Some are obvious and others not so obvious, for example: Jarvis Jones had a “KEY STOP” deep in the 3rd quarter to force the Giants into a 4 and out. Woods with some pressure up the middle for a sack, and Ta’Amu with some good pressure on the Quarterback, as well. The Steelers Inside linebackers impressed me in many ways last night, a serious core of competitors all fighting and jockeying for that roster. Overall, I believe that the Special Teams looked better than they have in past seasons. Expect big things from Woods (No. # 17) and his ability to speed up the field making would be tacklers miss. Communication will be key in correcting the issues facing the Steelers for sure this season. The one key missing was Le’Veon Bell not running at all, with no carries and on the sideline. It was discussed by Tomlin with reporters earlier in the week. It never materialized, but more games to come, more of an opportunity to get him in the game. Miscues were a big issue, with a TOTAL of 50 costly yards in penalties handed out to the Steelers. A lot of work to be done here in the Preseason; however I believe that with communication, some ball handling techniques that still need to be addressed on Special Teams.
