Good Afternoon, Today Is September 27th, 2014 Time: 15:40 Hrs. PDT HEADLINE: Rescue efforts resume on Mt. Ontake (VIDEO Report At Site URL) Police in central Japan have resumed a rescue operation for people trapped on a mountain that erupted on Saturday. They say 7 people are still unconscious on Mount Ontake, and six of them remain buried under volcanic ash. 43 others are injured. About 230 people have made their way down since the eruption. But some 40 people are still taking shelter in 4 huts. They include climbers, some of them injured, and workers at the lodges. About 550 police, firefighters, and Self-Defense Force personnel will take part in the rescue operation on Sunday. Mount Ontake, which straddles Nagano and Gifu prefectures, erupted before noon on Saturday. Officials at the Meteorological Agency confirmed clouds of debris flowed more than 3 kilometers down the southern slope. They raised the volcanic alert level from 1 to 3 on a scale of 5. This means entry to the mountain is restricted. The officials say eruptions were continuing as of 5:50 AM on Sunday.
