Good Afternoon Weather Watchers .......... A pleasant day in the Townsville region today and with the dark clouds gone and the humidity sitting around 60% it certainly felt alot cooler than it has the past couple of days. With it looking more likely for a cyclone to form, its time to check your cyclone prepared (just in case) its better to Be Prepared than to be Sorry but T.S will keep you updated on any developments that arise in the next few days.................... Below is your forecast for tomorrow. _____________________________________________________ This is the Official Forecast for Friday 7th of March 2014 for Gladstone to Cooktown and west to Mt Isa. _____________________________________________________ Weather Situation A tropical low lies to the west of the Solomon Islands and is expected to move to the southwest over the next few days whilst slowly developing. Another low is likely to develop over the northern Gulf of Carpentaria over the weekend and move slowly eastwards while developing. Forecasts over the weekend for the central coast and tropical northern Queensland will be highly dependent on the development and movement of these lows. A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over southern Queensland waters. The ridge will be reinforced by a new high moving east into southeastern Australia on Friday. A series of weak upper troughs will move across the south of the state over the next few days, maintaining the weak instability near the inland surface trough over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated to scattered showers about the east coast, tending to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the far north. Fine and mostly clear conditions are expected elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds for most parts. Friday 7 March Isolated showers along the east coast, increasing along the east tropical coast late in the day. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the far north of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Fire Danger - Very High over the Central Highlands. Saturday 8 March Forecasts for northeastern Queensland are highly dependent on the development of the tropical system in the Coral Sea. The system will most likely continue moving south to southwestwards over the Coral Sea and may approach the northeast coast of Queensland. There is also a high probability of the system developing into a tropical cyclone. Showers and rain areas are expected to increase along the tropical and central coasts late in the day, with isolated showers along the remaining east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in the far north and over the southern interior. Sunday 9 March Uncertainty persists with the movement and development of the tropical low or cyclone but it is likely to continue moving southwards close to the southern tropical Queensland coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are likely about the east tropical and central coasts with gales also likely. Isolated to scattered showers will occur further south along east coast in an onshore wind flow. Another tropical low over the northern Gulf of Carpentaria is likely to develop further and move slowly eastwards, however its influence is not likely to reach the western Peninsula by this stage, and just isolated to scattered showers and storms are expected to persist. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible about the southwest. Monday 10 March Forecasts remain highly dependent on the development and movement of the tropical systems off the northeast coast and in the northern Gulf of Carpentaria. Rain areas and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are likely about the east tropical and central coasts. Isolated to scattered showers will occur further south along east coast in an onshore wind flow. Scattered showers and storms will persist in the far north of the state, and may increase late in the day as the tropical low slowly approaches. Fine over the west. ____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Partly cloudy. Scattered showers, more frequent near the coast.
