((Good Afternoon everyone, and welcome to another Stern Fatherly Contemplation. )) ((Today, I feel it necessary to bring up the whole quagmire that is the Homestuck Design Contest. Namely the part where I am still hearing complaints from an active minority on the matter.)) ((Most of these remarks still stem over fears of the involvement from Hot Topic, but I have begun seeing remarks concerning the artists and their end of the deal. Let us begin.)) ((As a man who has just recently bought a shirt from a Hot Topic, I can currently claim that they appear to be the same shirts one would get from Welovefine over, say, whatever means the stores parent company uses to mass produce their products. This alleviates concerns over quality. And while I do not believe this will be the case for all locations, the one I visited had only one small stack, poorly visible to customer eye, and no advertising suggesting they had them. I had to ask someone for assistance to locate them. This flies in the face of common logic to me, as I would assume even a small advert on the wall wouldve sufficed. This also does defeat the old argument and fear of the poser moving in to wear the article of clothing without knowing the origins. For one, why alienate them? Give them a chance to learn about it! Or be proud that they clearly have good taste.)) ((And now to move onto the other side, the claims made concerning the artists.)) ((I will not get into the new claim of whitewashing done to the artwork beyond the claim that I have not seen evidence of this so far.)) ((As for the money prize, and the lack of compensation, I once again point out that the artist does not own the characters. Andrew Hussie does. This is like asking Nintendo to let you obtain royalties for the Legend of Zelda art you just made.)) ((They knew what they were getting into when they submitted their designs. It was in the Rules and Guidelines.)) ((Now I can and will argue that perhaps a bigger compensation should have been in order, that the money is a bit small. But what has been done is done. Use this as a lesson for future endeavors.)) ((Though as I type this, I find myself irked that, like the Caucasian incident or the original Hot Topic fears, this will rapidly fade, forgotten by most and set up to repeat again with the same angry results.)) ((I am not saying I am right, followers, and you have the right to disagree of course. I just wanted to give two cents on the issue so I dont have to keep explaining it.))
