Good Brakes, Angels! Or? Many decades ago at First Christian in Vidor, we were on our way home from a wonderful Christmas program. The church at Vidor and the Pinney family were involved in a lavish love affair. I would have never left if God hadn’t pulled my chain. Today they are doing wonderfully well with their preacher. As usual, Melba was taking one group home, I took another. Melba’s Volvo wagon was filled with wonderful Christmas singing, the radio was off. As Melba left the city lights and headed south on 105 she had just got up to speed and suddenly from the side of the road a older teen or early 20s girl jumped right in front of Melba’s Volvo, turn to face the Volvo and put her hands over her eyes. Melba is a good driver and was in her prime at that time. She grabbed for the gears to shift down and slammed the brakes to the floor knowing there was not room to stop. Suddenly the car was halted just inches from the panicking girl that looked up and screamed as Melba started to unbuckle and seek her. She ran at once into the dark woods and disappeared into the night. Everyone in the car began to breathe again, and Melba moved on so as not to block traffic. We gathered in our front room on Old Spanish Trail, and had prayer for that unknown girl that was facing something so horrible that suicide death by traffic was the only answer. The Volvo had the best brakes in the industry, and Melba was good, but neither was that good. The only answer and we have been there before with angles unaware, one or a team of angles exerted heavenly force to prevent a tragedy. We allowed each one of the kids to debrief and we prayed again as Melba changed and went to work and I went to my study to write for Sunday, the rest went to bed. About an hour later I looked up and two teary eyed girls, my Jeni and Jeannie, were standing in the door in their night clothes, they couldn’t sleep. As I looked up, they ran across the room and we hugged, prayed and talked late into the night about why a beautiful girl might want to take her life in that way. I explained to the girls that Satan was created by Jesus according to Colossians one and that Satan became prideful and fell from heaven and took 1/3 of the billions of angels with him to become demons. As far as I can tell there are no female angels so, no female demons. These demoniacs have one goal to kill, lie about, steal and destroy God’s human images. It seems these demons can occupy humans in many ways, in the mind, bodily and in their actions, their addictions and mental decisions; it is all out warfare, spiritual warfare according to Paul, and Jesus Christ and prayer are our defenses. We, most likely will never know this girl’s name or what possessed her, but God does and we can pray for her and God will direct our prayers, we prayed again and said good night. Nearly four decades later tonight at Agape Bible Study Herb and Henry will step out of the box and present a Christmas program that will not be a living pageant, Christmas story time, a Christmas banquet and perhaps we will be the only one of 240 some churches in this part of New Mexico to attempt it, So pray for us. I’ll clue you in tomorrow. Love// Herb
