Good Deed #100 (Follow up) & Good Deed #149 Of this journey I have been on I think todays good deed has been the most emotional and touching for me. As I spoke about yesterday when I was 10 years old I had heart surgery. I grew up like any other normal lad my age however always had difficulty breathing. When I was 8 I had a very bad chest infection and after 12 weeks my mother insisted I have an X-Ray. Luckily my auntie at the time worked in the x-ray department and managed to squeeze me in. It transpired that I had a hole in my right ventricle. The right side of my heart was 4 times the size of my left and I was on the brink of a heart attack! I was rushed into Bristol children’s hospital for emergency surgery and I guess the rest is now history. I owe the hospital and the charity The Grand Appeal who looked after me and my family my life, because they saved mine. So it really was quite easy when I decided after not getting any entries to my 100th good deed competition that I was to give the Nintendo Wii to the Bristol Children’s Hospital and to their kids who go through life critical surgery, just like I did. I headed down to Bristol this afternoon to meet up with The Grand Appeal team and spend a good hour chatting with them and learning more about the charity. They are a very small charity that need as much support as they can get. Any donations or fundraising you can do for them really goes a long way. As well as the Nintendo Wii I also gave them two Xbox consoles and a whole load of accessories, I was feeling a little over generous today! The lovely team told me that the Xbox consoles will go to the wards and the Nintendo Wii will go to the physiotherapy unit to help kids get mobile after their accidents and surgery, a vital part in their recovery. I want to take this time to personally thank Bristol childrens hospital for saving my life and Wallace & Gromits Grand Appeal for supporting me and my family through that time. I found an old picture of me just after my surgery for you guys to see :-D If you are feeling generous today you can check out The Grand Appeal below and their donation link too. grandappeal.org.uk grandappeal.org.uk/donate/ For my #149th Good Deed I donated money to The Grand Appeal this evening, in keeping with my afternoon with them.
