Good Evening Friends, We hear a lot of negative comments about crows and ravens. Most of these comments are based on what people have seen in movies. We hear statements such as, “oh, I don’t like them, they are evil” really bother us. One reason it bothers us is that no species is evil, many are just very misunderstood, but what bothers us most about crows and ravens is when we ask people why they feel that way the two most common answer are either, “they are black” or “I’ve seen them attack people in movies”. Both of these answers actually tell us that stories and movies have convinced these people that black animals are evil or all black birds are evil. Please remember, these movies are fiction, not real, in no way real. Crows and ravens do not fly around attacking people. In fact, ravens and crows are considered the smartest birds on the planet, not only capable of using tools, but making them as well. They are also very sensitive and caring creatures. Many crows and ravens never even leave their parents; they stay in their family flock, caring for their younger siblings for their entire lives. They also grieve the loss of loved ones, just like we do. The next time you find yourself shying away from or being afraid of a species of animal, try to remember if there was a movie that formed your opinion. It happens all too often and animals end up suffering for this. Have a beautiful evening all!
