Monday at 9am during The Marc Steiner Show, we discuss The Common Core; educational standards intended to bring curricula that varies state-to-state into alignment with one other. We begin our conversation by looking at the theory behind Common Core and then move into a discussion of its implementation. Our guests are: RiShawn Biddle, editor of Dropout Nation, an education reform magazine; Mike McShane, education research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; Dr. Neal P. McCluskey, Associate Director of the Center for Educational Freedom at the Cato Institute; Kalman "Buzzy" Hettleman, former Baltimore City School Board member; Shaun Johnson, former public school teacher, blogger and co-host of At The Chalk Face; and Lynette Guastaferro, Executive Director of Teaching Matters. Then at 10:30am, Doug Colbert, University of Maryland Carey School of Law Professor, and Maryland State Senator Brian Frosh discuss an important Maryland Court of Appeals decision mandating that poor suspects have access to counsel at all bail hearings.
