Good Evening Weather Watchers....... Fantastic to see rain falling in Townsville today with the northern suburbs getting some nice heavy showers at times. Lovely and cool as well which was a welcome change after the past couple of warm days..... Below is your forecast for tomorrow.......................... ______________________________________________________ This is the Official Forecast for Thursday 17th of October 2013 for Gladstone to Cooktown and west to Mt Isa. _____________________________________________________ Weather Situation A surface trough lies from the northwest and through the central interior. A high (1025 hPa) over the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly eastwards and strengthen during the next few days, extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new surface trough will move into the southwest of the state during Thursday morning and across western districts and the southern interior during the day, before contracting off the southeast coast during Friday. An upper trough over western Queensland is expected to move eastwards over central districts tonight and Thursday before moving offshore. Another upper trough is expected to move across the southern interior from late Thursday, and over central and southeast districts during Friday before moving offshore and lying over the northern tropics during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Cloudy with scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms from the tropical coast and into the tropical and central interior, with some severe thunderstorms likely. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remaining northern tropics. Fine and mostly clear over the far west. Fine and partly cloudy over southeast districts. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds over eastern districts, shifting northwest to southwesterly over the far west of the state. Thursday 17 October Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, increasing to scattered showers and thunderstorms about the North Tropical Coast and tropical interior in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern interior, increasing to scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms during the day and spreading east into the southeast inland during the afternoon and evening. Fine and mostly sunny in the far west, partly cloudy in the Capricornia and southern coastal areas. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds over the eastern tropics, shifting moderate to fresh and gusty northeast to northwesterly over remaining districts ahead of a fresh and gusty south to southwesterly change spreading across western districts and the southern interior during the day. Fire Danger - Severe in the west and southern interior, High to Very High elsewhere. Friday 18 October The surface trough is expected to lie from the northwest to the southeast, most likely contracting off the southern Queensland coast during the day and followed by a fresh to strong south to southeasterly change. The upper level trough will also move east, reaching the central and southern coast at night. This feature is expected to generate isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the central and southeast interior, increasing to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeast before generally contracting into the Wide Bay and Capricornia districts late in the day as the trough moves off the southern coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible in an unstable airmass about the Gulf Country. The high over the Tasman Sea is expected to extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast with isolated showers expected over the northeastern tropics in the moist onshore flow. Saturday 19 October The high over the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly eastwards and continue to extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will be confined mainly to coastal districts. The upper trough will move over tropical districts, and is expected to enhance shower activity about the tropical coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur about the western Gulf Country. Fine and sunny conditions elsewhere in the state though some cloud is likely over the central and southern interior during the day. Warmer maximum temperatures expected in the west of the state due to northerly winds. Sunday 20 October The high over the eastern Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly to the east of New Zealand and weaken a little, but continue to extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will be confined mainly to coastal districts, clearing from the southeast coast during the day. The upper trough will continue to lie over the northern tropics and is likely to enhance shower activity about the North Tropical Coast and ranges. Fine and sunny conditions elsewhere in the state, though some cloud may develop over the southern interior during the day. Maximum temperatures are expected to be above average in the west and southern interior with increasing northerly winds ahead of a new surface trough that will approach the far southwest in the evening. _____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Partly cloudy.
