Good Evening, this is Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Eric Madison. I am calling you tonight with some important information on the anticipated winter storm, and some safety tips for you to stay safe during this event. Should we experience any power outages; Avoid using candles. Use battery operated lanterns and flashlights. Never run a generator in your house or garage, and make sure it is not connected to your home’s electrical system unless a proper transfer switch has been installed by a qualified professional. To avoid a potentially carbon monoxide issue, be sure to clear snow around any heater and water heater vent, as well as your gas meter. Because of blowing snow, this may need to be done several times during the storm. Please stay off the roads. At times, the roads may become impossible to drive on and the snow may fall faster than it can be cleared. Be patient and allow crews time to clear snow before venturing out. Make sure you have several days of food, medicine or any special supplies you may need. It could be several days before it is safe to venture out. During the storm: On Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday all non-essential town building and services will be closed. This includes the Town Hall, Greenwood Center and the Library. There is a parking ban in effect for all town streets until 12 hours after the snow fall ends. Please do not put your rubbish out tonight for collection on Tuesday. There will be no rubbish collection on Tuesday. The scheduled collection on Tuesday will occur on Wednesday. All trash collection will be delayed one day for the rest of the week. You may receive further announcements regarding Town operations during and immediately following the storm, including any changes in hours of operations.
