Good Friday morning, Weather-wise, today will be nice but a bit breezy. Highs around 60 with SE winds 10-20mph. Tonight’s low will be in the 40’s with south winds 5-15 mph. We have a storm system that will work its way thru the state later tonight and tomorrow. Rain chances for us are only about 30% overall. It won’t rain all the time but I think it will be out of the area by mid afternoon or so based on timing right now. Sunday looks to be mild with highs in the 60’s. There has been a lot of hype about next week’s storm system. The models are still not in agreement so keep an open mind right now on what MIGHT happen here about mid week. If this was spring, I would be worried about a major severe weather outbreak but since this is fall, more variables come into play. Timing, storm track, moisture at the surface and aloft, and many others come into play on all of this. I read and study a lot from the NWS Forecast Discussions and Hazardous Weather forecasts, the Storm Prediction Centers outlooks and all the models used for forecasting. There is no hype there, no ratings involved, just the straight scoop on what they think will happen. They have a very high percentage of success rates over the years. Take the time if you have it to check them out. Those of you that were given paperwork to fill out at our Hazard Mitigation meeting need to return those forms to me ASAP. I am sending them to our plan writers on Monday. This is extremely important. Finally, I experienced a small earthquake at my Fire Meeting in Hillsdale last Monday. It took us all by surprise and lasted for about 3-5 seconds or so. It was a rolling feeling and it brought back visions of the movie 2012 when the ground was collapsing under Los Angeles. Great graphics in the movie but IF that ever happened in reality, we may not fair so well. Since we are revising our Preparedness guides for the next printing, we will have a little more information on this subject. It was a humbling experience to say the least and causes you to understand that we aren’t as in control of things as we think we are. Have a great weekend and stay safe.
