Good Monday morning brothers and sisters in Christ. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father into thy hands I commit my spirit! Luke 23:46 A television humorist once complained about his psycho-therapy sessions. I go to this doctor and pay him $75 an hour, and all he does is ask me the same question my father used to ask me all the time: Who do you think you are, anyway? A good question. Perhaps it is the question for us all to ask. jesus knew who he was. He was his Fathers Son. His relationship with God was intimate, close, and personal. Who are we? First of all, we are creatures. We have been created by a loving God in his own image. Why were we created? In order to become his adopted children, brothers and sisters of Jesus. When we realize that what God has in mind for us is similar to the intimacy he has with Jesus, we can rejoice, as if we were orphans taken in off the street. Every day we are being shaped and molded into the Fathers family. Part of that shaping comes from following the Twelve Steps. Through the gospel and the steps we are being offered the closeness of a childs relationship to a parent. To know this is to join Saint Paul as he says: You have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, Abba! Father! it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:15-17). O Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, shape me and mold me into your image and likeness of love and adopt me as your own loving child. I pray that everyone will have joyful and peaceful day and week.
