Good Monday morning, folks! =NL TO SEE SNOW, ICE PELLETS, FREEZING RAIN AND RAIN TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY FROM THE STRONG STORM BRINGING THE BLIZZARD TO THE NORTHEAST USA...FAR LESS MAJOR FOR THE PROVINCE THAN AREAS SOUTHWEST= This will not be a full weather update as you are used to seeing from me during the week... I am still on holiday and will be back to work as normal on Thursday. Between now and then, I will supply Facebook and twitter updates as I can. Im planning on doing a blog post later today on what we can expect tomorrow into Wednesday across NL, from the storm that will bring a historic blizzard to the Northeastern United States. Speaking of the Northeast USA...it looks like areas from near Philadelphia through New York, Boston, most of Maine and into the Maritime Provinces will see 1-3+ feet (30-90+ cm) of wind driven, heavy snow Tuesday through early Wednesday. By the time this system gets into Newfoundland, it will be a weakening low. Its peak intensity will be reached off the coast of New England Tuesday night. The impacts to NL will far less severe than areas southwest. Snow will overspread the Island Tuesday afternoon. Due to the interaction of a few different air masses, snow will change to ice pellets for freezing rain for a period of time across eastern Newfoundland Tuesday night. If the precipitation type is freezing rain, ice accretion could be significant. The freezing rain will eventually change to rain by Wednesday morning as temperatures warm above the freezing mark. Ill have a break down on how much of what may fall later today. Either way...this looks like a big mess. Central Newfoundland will see more snow, and less freezing rain and rain from this system, but there too the precipitation should change to something other than snow Wednesday night. Amounts should be in the 10-20 cm range, with higher amounts the closer you get to Grand Falls-Windsor. Western, northwestern Newfoundland and southeast Labrador should see mainly snow from this system, and it may be significant at that. Perhaps over 15-30 cm from near Stephenville northward onto the Northern and Baie Verte Peninsulas. It may end as some drizzle or freezing drizzle Wednesday afternoon on the Island. Labrador will see all snow from this low, which will taper off Wednesday night. Ill have a more detailed update for you later! Have a great day! Cheers, Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr
