On this date in 1804 Vice President of the United States Aaron Burr shot and killed former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton in a duel. Yes, you read that correctly. Two grown men had a fuss and settled it by pacing off and then shooting at each other. My, how times of changed…right? 200+ years later, we are still shooting at each other. The Vice President of the United States, shooting at the Treasury Secretary like a moonshiner. Yikes. The word for the day is…lollop. The word means, “to move forward with a bounding or leaping motion.” We use it in a sentence as follows: “When potential arrestees, wearing baggy pants, attempt to escape on foot, they tend to lollop instead of run.” And now….The Routledge’s Manual of Etiquette, tip of the day. “If you have occasion to use your handkerchief, do so as noiselessly as possible.
