Good Morning Crazy Cousins…. We have about 27 degrees at the Brimfield Police Department. We will be at about 42 degrees today with cloudy skies. There are no incidents or arrests to discuss at this time. Today is December 22nd, 2014. The 2015 Brimfest Crazy Cousins Reunion and Veterans Welcome Home Parade is Saturday, September 19, 2015. On this date in the year 1944, Germans demanded the surrender of American troops at Bastogne, Belgium. The reply they received was one word, issued by General Anthony McAuliffe. That reply was “Nuts.” When the German commander asked for a specific meaning of the reply, he was told it was similar to the phrase “Go to Hell.” Yikes. General McAuliffe was my kind of leader. The word for the day is… resist (ri-zist). The word means, “to withstand, strive against, or oppose.” We use it in a sentence as follows: “In spite of the opinion of some ignorant folks, it is never okay to resist a lawful arrest.” And now the Brimfield Police Department American Flag Etiquette Tip of the Day: “During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.” Today is NOT my birthday. He was in in TV show “Chicago Hope” and also played the hotel general manager in the movie “Pretty Woman.” That movie was fun but not very realistic. After all, how many middle-aged men cannot drive a manual shift car? Happy Birthday to Steve Garvey (retired baseball player), Ted Cruz (senator) and Susan Powter, (diet guru/author/talk show person). Mr. Cruz may be a presidential candidate in 2016. Susan Powter helpd folks shed those unwanted pounds. Happy Birthday to Dick Parry, Kentford, the saxophonist from Pink Floyd.
