Good Morning Everyone. January 24, 2015 From Natalie In The Field. Early we stopped briefly to check the bison carcass. Most times as we rode pass we saw the same scenario. Ravens! Only once in the same area did we stop to photograph a coyote wandering through the sage brush making brief stops in open areas to check out his surroundings. The highlight of our day! The Lamar alphas were out and about without the almost 9 month old pups. I realized that next month when the pups are 10 months they may start seriously helping with hunts. Most of our morning until afternoon was spent with the Lamar alphas. Our scoping was of 926F for 1 1/2 hours this AM. At times she was close enough we could see her with our naked eyes. At least we had a long look at her before the snow came in and it was impossible to see anything. 925M had been out in the open but as sometimes happens we missed seeing him. For the most part she was traveling through the snow at a slow pace. At times we watched her having a little trouble negotiating the slick spots of ice. Shed slip and I would cringe. She seemed to be on a mission but would occasional turn to look behind her maybe for her mate. After going so far she turned to travel back through the valley toward were we thought 925M might be hidden up in the tree line. It was possible she was trying to check on the elk that they had chased. The elk had headed to the water and then some how managed to make it across to the other side of the road.(this was related to me by Dave a YA instructor). Its possible the alphas did make contact as the elk was seen licking itself in places. We left to do a drive through the valley. On our return to make another pass through the valley we saw a man with his scope up in the general area the Lamar alphas had been early this morning! Well well the 2 of them were walking up close to the ridge and then they went over the ridge. We were headed back to our car when the nice man called us back. They were back out again. Both had come back over the ridge and again worked their way left up to the top of ridge. At the top of the ridge between the trees they sat for a moment facing us so we could admire this couple one last time. Id say this was a perfect way to end our day!
