Good Morning Friends We are fast approaching D-day for both the Cape Peninsula Marathon and the helpers run, which takes place during the preceding week. Greta is still short of about 50 Marshals in sections 3, 4 and 5. I want to ask you please to step forward and assist us. Stop and think for a moment about all the races in which we run throughout the year.... all of them have loads of marshals and water table attendants. Like you and I they are ordinary club members who give of their time and make a sacrifice to help their club pull of a great race. The Cape Peninsula Marathon is one of South Africas prominent marathons and does attract a lot of outside attention. It is therefore important that we all pull together to make it a huge success. So please have a Madiba moment and contact Greta on greta.brock@gmail and give a little of your time to your club. There is a helpers run and your times will be recorded and entered into the official results and will also count towards qualification for Comrades and Oceans. The more folk that enter this, the less lonely it will be out there. If you are really wanting to run the main event, because it is your maiden race or youre assisting someone else or maybe out of town, you are also welcome to assist me in helping at the helpers run. I still need a few folk for various tasks. Please also indicate to Greta. Very important to note that there are no late entries for the Lion of Africa 10 and 21km races this coming Saturday. If you have not entered online, you can still enter at number collection on WEDNESDAY 29 and THURSDAY 30 January at Sportsmans Warehouse. Remember that like all races at this time of the year it is popular and parking can be a problem, so get there early and consider car pooling with club mates and friends if possible. Anybody who is looking for accommodation at Comrades, please get in touch with me on leerbritten@gmail . Currently we are looking at organizing self catering accommodation for some of our less fortunate runners, but if there are any other members who would like similar accommodation at their expense, please get in touch so we can make an early booking. I would also strongly recommend that anyone going up to Comrades make and book their flights or other transport early. I am also planning to have a club member on the ground in Durban who will be able to track runners and assist on race day. Please watch this space. If there is any other realistic way in which the club can assist your with Comrades, please get in touch. Please be advised that there is now official club run set down for this Sunday and that the following weeks are take up by the Cape Peninsula helpers run and Cape Peninsula Marathon and Half Marathon. If someone wants to take a run under the Celtics umbrella, please get in touch so we can advise other members. This also covers us in the event of any unfortunate mishaps, in that we know that there is/was a club run taking place and who the leader/s were. Have a great week and see you at Lion of Africa. The Gazebo will be up and we will have watermelon and other liquid refreshments. Please support our honesty bar Lee
