Good Morning~~~Have a Wonderful Day~~~Motivation What Is Your Motivation For Doing Right; When we look at some of the people in the Bible that truly served the Lord how many were in it for themselves, for the reward they would receive? Look at David, Moses, Noah, Ruth, The woman who gave her all. No where does it say “I did my job Lord where’s MY reward” “Wow look how wonderful I did sure looking forward to being blessed by the Lord.” When David slew Goliath he wanted to truly serve the Lord no thought of special rewards or treatment. Goliath was a threat to his people. David had been used to making protection his way of serving the Lord. He wanted to please the Lord. These people and others do what they do because they love the Lord, the brethren, the truth. Its not about “What’s in it for me” or wait till I get my reward all be envious of me. David’s reason for standing against Goliath was to serve the Lord. The boy openly expressed his disdain for the giant: “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?” Challenging the chosen nation, Israel, was the same as defying the Lord Himself. David was prepared to defend. Challenging the chosen nation, Israel, was the same as defying the Lord Himself. David was prepared to defend the Lord’s holy name and His people, even against this fearsome warrior. A right and holy motive gives a person confidence to obey God, even if doing so defies human wisdom. The right motive for facing a problem/issue/battle is a desire to follow, serve, and honor God, no matter what. Life’s Goliaths do not just strain our comfort or wellbeing; these challenges can obstruct our obedient walk with the Lord. He will give victory to those who stand strong in His name. It is possible for believers to look for victory over life’s Goliaths with wrong motives. A lot of reasons that sound good are actually selfish. “I’m tired of being in this mess“. Or Lord, I can’t run away, so You’ll have to remove this problem. Some people try to bargain their way out of tight spots: “Lord I will stay away from television” “Lord I will not eat as a glutton if you…” “A new way to lose weight I will say I am fasting or giving sweets up for the Lord”. PLEASE remember we are all in the flesh while here in this sin-cursed world BUT lets not use the flesh as an excuse. Remember we are here to glorify the Lord lets please him just to please him and not wait to see how “I will be Blessed.” Look at what he has done for us, look at what he continues to do for us we really deserve nothing. We need to look at serving our Precious Lord as a privilege, and a way to please him. We can’t look at it as Jesus is a genie in a magic bottle for our pleasures, he is not here to serve us. What are your motives today? 1Samuel 17:8 And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. 1Samuel 17:9 If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. 1Samuel 17:10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. 1Samuel 17:11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid. 1Samuel 17:12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul. 1Samuel 17:13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 1Samuel 17:14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul. 1Samuel 17:15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his fathers sheep at Bethlehem. 1Samuel 17:16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days. 1Samuel 17:17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; 1Samuel 17:18 And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge. 1Samuel 17:19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. 1Samuel 17:20 And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. 1Samuel 17:21 For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army. 1Samuel 17:22 And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren. 1Samuel 17:23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them. 1Samuel 17:24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid. 1Samuel 17:25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his fathers house free in Israel. 1Samuel 17:26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? 1Samuel 17:27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. 1Samuel 17:28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliabs anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 1Samuel 17:29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? 1Samuel 17:30 And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner. 1Samuel 17:31 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him. 1Samuel 17:32 And David said to Saul, Let no mans heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. 1Samuel 17:33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. 1Samuel 17:34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his fathers sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 1Samuel 17:35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 1Samuel 17:36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 1Samuel 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. Psalm 100:1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. John 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
