In a unanimous decision during a meeting held on Sunday night, PDP Governors and President Goodluck Jonathan have chosen a former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mu’azu will now replace Bamanga Tukur who resigned last week Wednesday. 2. On the news headline this morning is the attack launched on members of the Save Rivers Movement during a rally in Bori, Khana Local Government Area. Report says hoodlums suspected to be militants, on Sunday invaded the group, shooting sporadically, destroying vehicles and other valuables. Many were said to be seriously injured. 3. Despite the criticisms that confront him from all quarters, former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has in today’s news praised his tenure as the PDP National Chairman , saying that he brought a lot of change into the party, which some party members were not comfortable with. Tukur insisted he was in office to promote the principle of election and not selection as some party members would have wished. 4. The victory of Nigerian Super Eagles against the Bafana Bafana of South African in the ongoing CHAN tournament makes major paper headlines today. An improved Super Eagles defeated South Africa 3:1 to gather 6 points needed to qualify them for the knockout stage of the competition. Nigeria and Mali qualified from the group, with Mali coming top with 7 points. 5. Equally making the news headline is the call by the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo be arrested and prosecuted for corruption. Kalu had insisted that Corruption started actively in Nigeria during Obasanjo’s administration. 6. Reacting to a statement credited to some Northern elders that he should be dragged before the International Criminal Court, ICC, for crimes committed by soldiers prosecuting the war against terrorism, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, COAS, General Azubuike Ihejirika, has said that northern elders were not sensitive to the sacrifice made by the country’s armed forces . He stated further that such call was capable of demoralising soldiers making huge sacrifices for the nation, and will frustrate the war declared on terrorists in the North. 7. Also in the news is the promise by the Finance Minister, Okonjo Iweala that the missing 10.8 million dollars would be recovered by her Ministry. The Minister had emphasised on the role of her Ministry, saying that part of its many roles is to ensure that issues regarding such funds in other Ministries are traced and possibly reconciled. She however lauded her Ministry for the job done so far regarding the missing fund. 8. On the news headline is the fresh violence that broke out in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen. The Police in the state has confirmed that there is an ongoing violence in Adaka village, Makurdi Local Government Area. Report says many have already been displaced. 9. The perpetrators of the sodomy act in Ejigbo where two women were molested and tortured with ground pepper were arrested at the early hours of Sunday following the closure of the market by residents and women, in protest of the barbaric act. The perpetrators were personally summoned by Oba Moruf Adisa Ojoola at his palace before they were arrested. 10. Very visible in today’s news is the dead of suspected trans-border car snatcher, Hamani Tidjani. Report says Mr. Tdijani died after 10 years in prison custody. Recall that Mr. Tidjani, was arrested by the Nigeria police for allegedly masterminding a car snatching syndicate across the Nigeria-Benin Republic border. He died 9 a.m. on Sunday.
