Good Morning Heres a WTSA News update: Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is demanding that states be given a greater oversight role in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. Sanders told members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Thursday that he was dissatisfied with their answers on the degree to which states should have power over the dismantling of retired nuclear plants. The issue has arisen in Vermont since Vermont Yankee nuclear plant owner Entergy Corp. announced last summer that the plant would close at the end of 2014. Putney gets a 300 thousand dollar state grant to continue building a sidewalk from the center of town to Landmark college. The Windham regional commissions Matt Mann says the town was also given state funding last year, and the latest grant will allow the project to be completed. A O T officials said the money would be released to pay for project related expenses as the sidewalk is built. New Hampshires state fire marshal is warning residents that the leading cause of house fires in the state for the last 20 years has been directly related to solid fuel burning appliances such as wood stoves. J. William Degnan says most of the fires were likely caused by a lack of proper maintenance of the appliance. But he says design and installation problems also have led to fires.
