Good Morning Hockeytown! The Jets had the better of the shots through two periods and for the game led 31-27 but the Wings dominated in the final frame with 14 shots to 9 and two unanswered goals for the win. The first period wasnt much to speak of though the Jets had the better of the chances the game was even at zero going into intermission. Petr Mrazek making his season debut this evening made some great saves when called upon to keep the Jets off the score sheet including on a short handed breakaway. Second period saw the Jets piling on the offence and dominating on the shot count at 14-6. They built a two goal lead before the half point of the middle frame, the second goal was waived off on the ice but a reveiw declared it a good goal. Thirty seconds after that goal Tomas Tatar tallied his first of the night to get the Wings on the board and just about three minutes later Johan Franzen evened the game on the power play. Unfortunately the Jets restored their lead before intermission. Third period was all Wings and the took the game over and had 14 shots to the Jets 9. Justin Abdelkader continued to establish himself as a net front presence as he battled in front of Pavelec and tipped in a shot from Lashoff. About two minutes later Tomas Tatar tallied his second of the game to give the Wings the 4-3 lead, it would become his second game winner in consecutive games. It was a great come from behind win for the Wings where they stayed the course and were patient and took advantage of the opportunities to get the win. Here is some of what Coach Babcock had to say about the game to detroitnews: We gutted it out. They were better than us early. We were standing around watching and not getting involved. Out goaltender and penalty were good and it kept us in the game. Then we got upset, or whatever we did, and finally dug in and got playing and executing. Babcock also spoke to detroitnews about Tatar: I might be harder on Tats than any other player on the team. He has a chance to be a real player and were going to hold him on that. Hes capable of being good every night. We expect a lot from Tats and hes capable of delivering. Tatar talked to detroitnews about what the Wings did in the third to turn the game around in their favor: We were playing simple and more aggressive, we knew we had nothing to lose. We were down, so we forced the puck to the net and tried to find a hole. We were real happy we played well in that third period and we got those two points. Johan Franzen talked to detroitnews about his goal: It turned out pretty good, Franzen said of the highlight-reel goal. I dont know what happened. He was trying to step up, lost his feet and kind of scrambled to get back up, and fell. It probably looked prettier (than it was). *Red Wings Goals: ~10:02 2d period Tomas Tatar (7) Wrist shot - ASST: NONE ~12:51 2d period PPG - Johan Franzen (6) Snap shot - ASST: Tomas Jurco (4), Danny DeKeyser (7) ~13:00 3d period Justin Abdelkader (6) Tip-in - ASST: Tomas Tatar (4), Brian Lashoff (1) ~15:10 3d period Tomas Tatar (8) Snap shot - ASST: Justin Abdelkader (8), Jonathan Ericsson (4) *My Picks for Three Stars of the Game: 1) Tomas Tatar, 2 goals on 3 shots, 2 hits, 1 blocked shot, 13:06 TOI, Game Winner 2) Justin Abdelkader, 1 goal on 3 shots, 1 assist, 100 FO%, 16:10 TOI, Bringer of net front havoc! 3) Petr Mrazek, 28 saves on 31 shots faced, .903 save %, season debut *Game Stats: Category Wings-Jets Shots 27-31 Power Plays 1/4-0/3 Hits 17-20 Faceoff Wins 39-25 Giveaways 10-11 Takeaways 5-9 Blocked Shots 16-14 Penalty Minutes 6-8 stats via redwings.nhl Next up for the Wings they pay a visit to the Maple Leafs on Saturday with game time at 7pm et on FSD and in Canada on HNIC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Wings Lose Andrej Nestrasil to Hurricanes Off Waivers The Wings were facing a roster crunch which bound to happen sooner or later and with Stephan Weiss coming off waivers a move had to be made. That move was to place Andrej Nestrasil on waivers Wednesday, it was hoped he would clear by noon yesterday and could then be assigned to the Griffins. Unfortunately Nestrasil was claimed by the Hurricanes. A strong training camp and preseason earned Nestrasil a shot at a spot in the Wings line up. That good showing didnt quite translate into regular season NHL success, in 13 games Nestrasil had two assists and rated a -3. He had been a healthy scratch in the three games previous to Wednesday. He was picked by the Wings in 2009 draft at 75th overall. The Wings will visit the Hurricanes on the 7th of Decembre. Here is some of what coach Babcock had to say about Nestrasil via freep and mlive: Nesty is a great kid, coach Mike Babcock said. If he was my own kid, and I told him this yesterday, itd be great for him to play a year in the American league and score like crazy. I wish him well. If he can fit in and help them and play every night, thats really good for him. Thats what he wants to do, he wants to be an NHL player. We really liked him here, he was a good kid. I heard there were a whole bunch of teams that tried to claim him. Tomas Tatar spoke to freep about Nestrasil: Its unreal, Tatar said. Thats huge for him. Im really happy for him. He deserves that. Hes a great guy. Really hard worker. Hopefully he will find himself in a good spot in Carolina. Im really excited for him. Hopefully when we will play them he will make some dinner for us and show us around. Riley Sheahan said this about Nestrasil to mlive: Its awesome, Riley Sheahan said. I think a lot of the guys here are happy for him. Hes such a great guy off the ice and he works really hard and hes a great player. Obviously, well miss him, but its great for him to get a chance. Whenever you see him hes got a smile on his face and always joking around and fun to be around. I think the biggest asset for him is that hes so strong on the puck. Its cool to see him get picked up and hopefully hell have success. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Nyquist Puck Theif Pleads Guilty Amy Lynn Jones of Muskegon pleaded guilty in Kent County Court to charges of larceny by conversion and receiving and concealing stolen property which included the theft of Gustav Nyquists first NHL goal puck. The guilty plea ensures that Jones will serve at least five years in prison and that Nyquist will not have to testify at a trial. According to the Kent County Sherriffs investigators former employees of a storage facility illegally entered various units and took items in August of 2012. The stolen items, including Nyquists puck, were then offered for sale in an unauthorized auction. According to the Sherriffs department there were numerous victims of the scheme. Nyquist was among 15 listed in court papers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Todays Nationally Broadcast Game: Islanders @ Penguins, 7pm et on SN1 in Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Information from detroitnews, freep and mlive was used in compiling this post.
