Good Morning Hohenfels! News Brief for Monday Aug. 4, 2014 Let’s Speak English – new time Aug. 4: Our English as a Second Language education program is for all community members who are not proficient in the English Language. It is designed to assist Soldiers, Civilians, and Family Members who are not fluent and will provide a basic understanding of the English language and provide fundamental communication skills. This workshop will meet at a new time from 9 -10 a. m. every Monday at ACS, Bldg 10. For more information, contact Rick Iglesias, Relocation Program Manager, at DSN 466-4860/3403 or CIV 09472-83-4860/3403 Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse Aug. 4: This required class is provided to professionals and volunteers in the Hohenfels community who are working with children; directly or indirectly (i.e. childcare providers, coaches). Participants will learn about the signs and symptoms of child abuse, appropriate ways to respond to abuse, and the reporting procedures for child abuse. Certificates of completion are provided. This monthly program meets from 1 - 2:30 p.m. at ACS, Bldg. 10. For more information, call Priscilla Fleischer, FAP Manager, at DSN 466-4907 or CIV 09472-83-4907/4860 Sponsorship Training Aug. 4: Sponsorship Training provides valuable information and insight to help Soldiers and DA Civilian employees to prepare to be a sponsor for incoming personnel, whether individuals or families, and to maximize the total support available to all new arrivals during the relocation process. Learn to be a better sponsor by having a complete understanding of the duties and expectations beginning at 2 p.m. at ACS, Bldg. 10. Flag Football Officials Clinic Aug. 4 – 6: We are currently looking for officials of all skill levels to officiate our upcoming Unit Level Flag Football program. Along with many other aspects of becoming an official, you will learn about the rules and mechanics of officiating flag football. The clinic is free for all participants. 6 p.m. Lunchtime Group Exercise Classes Monday – Friday: Come by at the Post Gym at noon and get a great full body workout in only 30-40 minutes! There are a variety of classes designed to provide an entire full body workout each week. Fee: $2 per class. Sure Start Now accepting applications: Hohenfels Elementary School is currently accepting applications for Sure Start for the 2014-2015 school year. Sure Start is a preschool program for qualified four year olds who are command-sponsored. Children must meet age and eligibility requirements including turning four years old by 1 September of the current school year. Please turn application into HES with sponsors current LES by Aug. 21. Applications are reviewed by a committee made up of school personnel and priority is given to children whose sponsor is E4 and below. Applications can be picked up at HES. Please call the main office at 466-2729 for further information. Free/Reduced Student Meal Program Applications now being accepted: K-12 grade students can apply. Sure Start meals are free. Must reapply EVERY school year. Pick up an application for free/reduced lunches at Hohenfels Elementary School, Hohenfels Middle High School, School Liaison Officer Office (Bldg 10) or Parent Central Services (Bldg 10) Return applications for free/reduced lunches to School Liaison Officer (Bldg. 10) or Parent Central Services (Bldg. 10) Once approved you must take approved letter directly to the school cafeteria or your child will be charged the full rate until you present the qualifying letter.
