Good Morning. Hope your new year is getting off to a great start. Drs still seem pleased with Emilys status. Our major goals right now are to get as much fluid off of her as possible. She receive about 26 liters of fluid in the first few days, and thru dialysis they have been able to remove about 16 liters over the last few days. Yeah! The other goal is to allow her lungs and kidneys time to rest, giving her body a break so it can fight the infection while not exerting all its energies on the sick lungs and kidney. (The lungs and kidneys are both being supported my dialysis and ECMO). A couple of days ago Emilys WBC (White Blood Count) had elevated up to about 53 thousand. Last evening it had dropped down to about 47 thousand. ( Normal is approx 8-13 thousand). Also claiming this as progress. Thank you Jesus. Her lungs are trying to heal. The right lung looks a tad bit worse today however, the left looks a slight bit better. These change on a day to day basis. Moving Emily has been quite a challenge for the nurses and caregivers due to all the tubes and life supporting equipment. She has developed a pressure sore on her hip and now on one of her ears. Wound care specialists are involved to monitor. Emily has had several units of blood and fresh frozen plasma. She will continue to get blood product occasionally as long as she is on the ECMO. Infection control keeps a close watch on her drug levels. Yesterday the gave us indication the antibiotics she is taking has stopped the infection, now just to get it cleared up. I hope I have not overwhelmed you all with this information. I just wanted to take a minute and explain things a little more in depth while I could get my thoughts together. We are grateful on a daily basis for any teeny tiny progress. We try to cling to the positive and know that God is working a miracle and claiming full recovery for Emily.
