Good Morning. In John 15:5 we are reminded that there is one important condition that we must meet before we can bring forth fruits of righteousness unto the Lord. Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” The Strong’s Concordance defines the word “abide”, in reference to state or condition, as “to remain as one, not to become another or different.” Abide suggest a strong connection. It also suggests that this connection is consistent and never changes. My friend; this morning the Lord is reminding us that He is the source of everything that we do. Notice very carefully that Jesus is implying that not everything we do is considering something. In other words, unless God is the source of our strength the things we do are considered nothing. Reflect for a moment on the word of God in Matt. 7:21-22. “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” This morning the Lord is reminding us to shift our focus away from the act of doing to the act of abiding. We don’t have to worry about the “correctness” of our actions once we abide in Jesus. He guarantees that all those who abide in Him will bring forth much fruit. We cannot abide in Christ if we continue to listen to the type of music produced by the agents of Satan. We cannot abide in Jesus if we continue to allow ourselves to be entertained by the things of this world. God wants us to be connected to Him every moment of every day through prayer and Bible study. We must flee the appearance of evil and get off Satan’s territories if we want to abide in Jesus. I pray that we will remain in the secret place of the most High and abide under the shadow of the almighty so that God can continue to strengthen our relationship with Him.
