Good Morning! Its a beautiful Thursday. Go out and add your bit to Ghanas development. Today on the Atlantic Wave with Kukua Biney and Kojo Brace, we are taking a look at this topic. NDC Government will definitely roll our free SHS in 2015....Minister announces. Government is putting a number of measures in place to ensure Senior High School (SHS) education is free from next year. The first batch of 365,000 students are expected to benefit from free SHS education under a pilot programme next academic year at a cost of GHC42.7 million. The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang and the deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary, Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced this in Parliament on Monday when they took turns to contribute to the debate on the 2015 budget statement and economic policy of the government. Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Hon Ablakwa said government is in the process of constructing a number of schools and that the first batch of 365, 000 students are expected to benefit from free SHS education under a pilot programme next academic year. “GHC42.7 has been allocated to cater for these students under a pilot programme…government is determined to make SHS education progressively free from next year…the allocation in the education sector has seen a significant jump…500,000 pieces free school uniforms will be distributed, 6 million text books are also set for distribution because we want to inculcate reading habit at the basic level…all these is because of the priority and commitment we have towards education” he indicated.
