Good Morning! Just a comment on the power of what we want to - TopicsExpress

Good Morning! Just a comment on the power of what we want to believe. This remnant of an 1873 Springfield carbine sold last night based on appearance, a good story and private hopes. The story was simple, a grandfather purchased the relic in the 1930s from an Indian who dug the weapon up near Medicine Tail Coulee during some road construction project. No provenance, but providing proof wasnt an issue then as it is today. Yes, its has probability and I am not sure it matters much if the end owner is thrilled with the prospect of its history. I will admit to getting into the bid during the latter half of the auction and somewhat thankfully watched my aspirations of ownership rapidly disappear at the end. To feel and touch provides a connection like no other letting ones imagination run. I was fortunate once to be allowed to sight Geronimos surrendered Springfield prior to it being cased. Small activity, but a big thrill! It would be a wonderful thing if people in possession of relics and/or artifacts would see their way clear to get them back to the appropriate locations for public enjoyment and education. Have a great one!!
