Good Morning. My mothers obituray was in the AZ Republic Sunday paper yesterday. Seemed fitting, being how she was born on New years day, and loved sports. She told me in ICU, as we watched the Cardinals play the Seahawks in December, that the Seahawks were good. I dont watch these games like she does. So I promptly began my cheers and we witnessed the Cardinals win! Crazy game. SuperBowl Game , I won my bet! Seahawks won., Below is her obit. Paine, Margaret Louise Lajoie Dudie January 1, 1923 - December 29, 2013. Margaret Louise (Lajoie) Paine is called by her nickname Dudie. She was a New Years Day baby, living for over 90 years from January 1, 1923. She passed away from us on December 29, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. Dudie was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota as one of the six cherished children of Julia (Jules) and John Lajoie, MD. Her father was a heart surgeon who first joined the Mayo Brothers in the founding years of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. In 1946 she met and married Robert (Bob) L. Paine, a high school friend and football/basketball champion, after an extended war-time courtship by heart-moving letters and rare visits. In 1959 they moved into their final home together near Camelback Mountain in the Arcadia District of Scottsdale, Arizona. Dudie enjoyed her community service there as a volunteer on the Election Board at Hopi school. Mom and dad enjoyed golf at the Valley Country Club and, later, included bridge games at the Arizona Country Club where Bob was an active member of the Board. Dudie was a member of the 9-Holer Club and was a surprising challenge in putting contests. We know that shes cheering for Phil Mickelson and Arnie from Heaven. Later, as a widow, she enjoyed laughing, playing bridge and bingo with her dear friends and she was a member of Kiwanis at Friendship Village in Tempe where she lived for 10 years. Dudie was preceded in death on December 15th of 2001 by Bob, her devoted sweetheart and husband of 55 years. She was also preceded in death by her sisters (Julia) Ann Lajoie Pickler, Kate Lajoie Stevens (of Carefree), Jo Lajoie Gunkleman (of Scottsdale), Mary Lajoie Barnum Sweeten and her brother John Lajoie. Mom is survived by all three of her children: Kathryn Paine Heller of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; William Hewett Paine and his partner Andre Mayer of Huntington Beach, California; and Judy Paine Lewis and her husband David Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her five handsome grandsons and their families: Brent Heller of Walnut Creek, California; Luke and Ricki Lewis and Mark and Jessica Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona; Eric Paine and Kate Williams in Laguna Beach, California; and Kyle and Emily Paine in Costa Mesa, California. Dudies joy includes her five precious great-grand children: Alexandra, Weston, Madison and Mariah Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona and Emerson Paine of Laguna Beach, California. We invite family and friends to share memories of Dudie and to celebrate her life well lived on Saturday, February 8th from 1-3 PM at Friendship Village Skirm Auditorium in Tempe, at 2625 E. Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ 85282. Instead of a flower tribute, please make a donation to Hospice of the Valley (HOV) reference: Thunderbird Palliative Care Unit, Funding Office: 1510 E.
